CHRISTIAN OBSERVANCE OF “JUNETEENTH INDEPENDENCE DAY” AT NATION’S CAPITOL
(WASHINGTON, DC) - The National Juneteenth Christian Leadership Council (NJCLC) announces a historic Christian observance of Juneteenth Independence Day in Washington, DC through a 3rd Annual National Juneteenth Prayer and Praise Worship Service on June 18, 1999. The service will be held at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Pastor, 1225 R Street, N.W., Washington, DC, beginning at 7:00pm. Speakers include former
Congresswoman Barbara Rose Collins (D-Michigan), Rev. Mark Pollard, President of the Common Ground Coalition in Atlanta, GA, John Mosley, historic convener of the “Modern Juneteenth Movement”, Bishop Imagene Stewart, Director of the District of Columbia Juneteenth Celebration and Oklahoma State Senator Maxine Horner. Senator Horner will receive the distinguished NJCLC “Juneteenth Leadership Award” for the successful passage of Oklahoma’s Juneteenth state holiday legislation. Music will include a special “Juneteenth Jazz Sacred Music Presentation” by Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D.
