Texas on Farm road 672 ten miles norhteast of Lockhart, Texas was founded in 1870 by Rev John Henry Winn, Sr. and a group of Negro families. Initiially named Winn's Colony, this group of Negro pioneers established St. Joohn Missionary Baptist Church. This develoopment not only prompted the community to chane its name to St. John Colony in 1879, but alson later influenced the naming of the community's cementery and school district.

The Carver Park Juneteenth Festival Committee invites everyone in the Houston/Galveston/Louisiana areas to celebrate with them, Saturday, June 19 at the historic Carver Park in Texas City, Texas. Juneteenth Freedom Wheels, Walk and Run - The City of Austin, TX Parks and Recreation and The Greater East Austin Youth Association will host a fun run on Saturday 6/19/1999. The run will begin at MLK and Comal and continue along the Annual Juneteenth Parade Route. Check-in time for participants is at 7:00am with the start time at 8:00am. There are categories for all ages, as well as, wheelchairs, rollerbladers, bicyclers, skateboarders, walkers & runners. There is a $10.00 entry fee which includes an official Freedom Wheels, Walk and Run T-Shirt featuring the design artistry of Billy Holmes. All proceeds will be used to enhance the Greater East Austin Youth Association.
