- The 1999 Oberlin, Ohio Juneteenth Homecoming Festival will begin on Friday, June 18,
with a Slavery Memorial Service sponsored by the Oberlin Black Alliance for Progress
(OBAP) held at Westwood Cemetery, 6:30 p.m., speaker will be Reverend Fred Bell. Saturday,
June 19, festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tappan Square in downtown Oberlin.
Activities include a parade, Jumping the Broom a wedding vow renewal ceremony, Storyteller
Patricia Ellis, African inspired fashion show, Bid Whist Party, Nigerian Woodcarver
Oladipo Oludare, Contests, Speakers: Edna Jordan-Smith, "Looking to the North Star
from Louisiana" and Rev. Dr. Eddie L. Grays, "Where do we go from here: the
future of the Black Community," music by Messengers of God, M.L.K Community Choir of

Wilberforce
- It is short notice but PLEASE join us in Wilberforce, Ohio for our JUBILATION
celebration honoring African American Freedom Celebrations. This will be held from one to
six on Saturday, June 19, 1999 at the National Afro American Museum and Cultural Center
here in Wilberforce at 1350 Brush Row Road. Vendors are welcome! Call to reserve space.

choirs and African drums and dance.... The museum has just opened an exhibit,When the
Spirit Moves: The Africanization of American Movement, which will be available to view!
