This year will be a landmark year, as the Juneteenth Jam99 will be held on Saturday June 19, 1999, the actual date of the commemorative event, and also the date that the Ralph Ellison novel, Juneteenth, will also finally be published, after 42 years in development. This year the celebration will return to the grounds of Perris Hill Park and Bowl Amphitheater in the city of San Bernardino, with the One Family Picnic from 10 a.m. to dusk, approximately 7 p.m., and the evening Music Festival, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Organizers of the FREE One Family Picnic are preparing for a full day of interesting and diverse festivities and activities. The One Family Picnic will feature a Cultural Bazaar & Ethnic Food Court, the "Its Hip To Be Healthy" Health Fair, and the Brighter Futures Business & Career Expo & Job Fair, a Childrens Fair, Exhibits, Games, and Demonstrations, and over 300 vendors, employers, health organizations, public agencies and community based-organizations are expected. This offers a wide field of opportunities for outreaching to the community as well as selling opportunities.
The Juneteenth Jam 99 Music Festival will take place in the cozy 1,600 seat Roosevelt Bowl, nestled against the northside base of Perris Hill. Beginning at 5 p.m., the music will feature "Some of the Best Musicians on the Planet." Last years program showcased 1998 Blues Grammy winner Taj Mahal, and the 1998 Los Angeles Jazz Society Winner for Best Jazz Vocalist, Ms. Barbara Morrison. The Juneteenth Jam 99 is proud to welcome Ms. Barbara Morrison back, along with the other talented artists scheduled so far, including the 1997 BET Jazz Award recipient, pianist/composer LaMont Johnson, whose MasterScores label issued 5 CDs in 1998, PLUS Grammy winner and premiere saxophone player/writer, Gary Bias, who won a Grammy for best song for "Sweet Love" co-written with the great Anita Baker.

St. Samuel Church of God in Christ 1199 E. Bayshore Rd. Rd. East Palo Alto Ca 94035, will host a Junetenth Celebration on Friday June 18 & 19th. June 18th from 7:30 to 9:30. This night we will Feature an artist who has built an entire plantaion from carboard. It includes mini slaves and animals. It is a beautiful peice of art work and a wonderful peice of history. Dorothy Abrums is the Artisit. Her grandpartents were slaves. From the pictures of her parents as children she was able to create the plantaion as seen in her dislay.
