The Hays County (including San Marcos, Kyle, Buda and Dripping Spring) Juneteenth Commission (HCJC)has selected "Unity in the Community" as this year's theme for the 1998 Juneteenth Celebration and Bar B-Q Cook-off. June 18-21, 1998. The schedule of events will start on Thursday, June 18th with the Annual Miss Juneteenth Pageant. The Texas Hill Country Branch of the NAACP will host its Annual Awards Dinner on Friday night at the Dunbar Community Center (801MLK DR.) the Annual Bar B-Q Cook-off participants will start setting up at the W.M. Mitchell Community Opportunity Center (715 Valley Street). Saturday, June the 20 will be a big day of celebration. The day will start with the annual Juneteenth Parade. A Summer Fun Festivial will last all day at the Mitchell Center. The celebration will end with a Community Church Service on Sunday on the campus of Southwest Texas State University at the University Perfoming Arts Center (UPPAC) Minister Kyev Tatum, Third Vice President , Texas State NAACP will bring the message.
