Fifth Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival presents "A Salute to the Black Aviators" June 19th, 20, 21 at Douglass Park - corner of Holmes & Mt. Olive Roads - North Memphis. Three Day Music and Fun Festival; Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Blues, Rap Classical, African Drummers and Dancers, Picnics, Games, Horseback riding, Watermelon Bust, Aviation Exhibit, Base ball game, Celebrity Golf Tournament, Story Telling, Food and Clothing vendors.
"I Believe I Can Fly" The Blackhawks, a local African American pilot's association will give Memphis kids an opportunity to soar and say "I believe I can fly" with a flight over the West Bank and down the Mississippi River, boarding from the Gen DeWitt Spain Airport in Millington
"Bessie Coleman Day" June 15th has been designate such in honor of the first African American, male or female to receive a pilot's license will be honored with the presentation of Sandra Campbell's "Follow Your Dreams" on June 18th. Campbell performs a one-act, one-woman dramatic interpretation of Bessie's rise from a poor little country girl to the first African American licensed pilot.
