African Americans in Texas have celebrated Juneteenth ever since 1865and in 1978 June 19 was made a state holiday, making Juneteenth the first official African American holiday in the United States. Join us Friday June 19 at 5:30 P.M. for a Libation prayer and ceremony at the Forks of the Road site where a historic marker will be erected and dedicated at the second largest enslavement market in all the south. On Saturday June 20 we will have a family fun day on the grounds of Melrose Plantation. Food, entertainment and fun for all.
