June 21, 1998 KMJJ's Annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held at Hamel's Park, 3232 East 70th Street in Shreveport. Last year we had over 13,000 attendants, five national recording artist and several local groups. We offered a special one day pass to Hamel's Park that also included admission to the performing artist. Opelousas

The Juneteenth Folklife Celebration, an African-American cultural celebration highlighting the rich heritage and contributions of Southwest Louisiana, will be held at 12 noon to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 1998. The annual celebration, always held the Saturday before Father's Day, include folk art demonstrations, zydeco music, liturgical dance, and more. Also on tap is an historical display on artifacts and inventions, as well as Creole cuisine and refreshments. The celebration, a non-alcoholic family event, is free to the public. On June 26, 1998, the Southern University Student Government Association will host its first annual Juneteenth Heritage Celebration. The list and times of events are as follows: * Griot Storytelling Theater (for kids) @ 10:00 a.m. * Art Exhibition @ 10:00 a.m.- (in the Art Exhibit Room of the Union) * Taste Fair @ 12:00 p.m. * Fashion Show/Jazz Concert (Simultaneously) @ 1:00 p.m. All events will take place in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Southern University Smith-Brown Memorial Union, unless stated otherwise.
