For the past 30 years the African American communities of Arizona have yearly, celebrated the tradition known as Juneteenth. Through the years of quiet celebrations, this event has grown from 80 to several thousand people that attend the variety of events spanning over several weeks. The Juneteenth Tradition has come to signify more than a day of food, sports and family unity. Regardless of color, people realize that it is a time to affirm the universal principles of freedom and justice for all.

The Second Annual Emancipation Marathon June 20, 1998 (8:00 am- 10:00 pm) Hub Gallery 130 N. Central Ave.; Phx 85004. For twelve hours, Phoenix area artists and personalities provide the voices for historical works and currents events depicting the definition, the law, the human condition and the legacy of slavery.
Tucson Annual Juneteenth
Festival - 
Our audience is made up of African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Native Americans,
Arab Americans, West Indian Americans, Pacific Islanders, Anglo Americans, Chinese and
Japanese American, Jewish Americans and is reflective of Tucson's multicultural
community. The total number of audience participants ranges from 15,000 to 20,000
attendees.
