June 17, 2010 - Juneteenth events commemorating the
end of slavery in the United States will be held in
Merced next week, including a church service and
banquet. A service coordinated by three local
church groups will be held on Thursday, June 17, at
6:30 p.m., at Gateway Community Church, 353 Donna Drive.
Six pastors will talk about the significance of freedom
to the Merced community. A day-long celebration
is scheduled for Saturday, June 19, at McNamara Park
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and a Juneteenth Banquet
will be held at 6:30 p.m. the same day at the Boys &
Girls Club at 15th and M streets. For information on
