June 19, 2010 - Iron Age Theatre and The Norristown NAACP Youth Council present Juneteenth: A Celebration of Black History In Norristown June 19 from 11am to 2 pm PM.  A Walking Tour of Downtown Norristown Including performances at each of seven stops of value to the Norristown African American Experience. Beginning at The Centre Theater 208 DeKalb Street Each tour last about an hour and there will be a series of tour throughout the day. (beginning roughly every 20 minutes) Featuring Tiffany Joyner, Richard Stevens, Maurice Tucker, Walter DeShields, Mike Way, Seidah Hill Durante, and more.

June 20, 2009 at 1:00pm - A compelling story of a mother (Esther) and her two children (Elijah and Letty) events leading up to the day of June 19, 1865, when they learn for the first time that they are free, free indeed. The story is set on the Andrews plantation in Galveston, Texas. The events of this family will make you cry, laugh, fume, and compassionately more aware of how precious life and family are. Come witness a live auction block experience, and see the Union Soldiers as they try and uphold the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, giving freedom to Africans.

Join us for dinner after the show for a time of fellowship and then a discussion about the mental and emotional reaction to the Juneteenth story and what it means to be a free American today. June 21, 2008 - Bethel Harambee Historical Services - At 7p-9p on the 20th and 11a-4pm on the 21st. We are collaborating with both the black and white community through the support and leadership of the church. Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, etablished in 1817 will be collaborating with the Unitarian Universalist Church in a Juneteenth Reconciliation Commemoration Weekend. Friday night will be a film and discussion evening, in Bethel Harambee's Research and Study center. Saturday the program will consist of a Reenactment of Enslaved Africans and their owners hearing from Union Soldiers of their freedom. It will have a dialog with historical facts, that will talk about all the perspectives of those involved in hearing of the right for Africans to be free. The event will start with a Drum Call. Also, we will have a Storytelling hour for children beginning at 11:00a, and a commemorative celebration of the USCT soldiers buried in the gravesite. Additionally, the day will include "Living The Experience" Underground Railroad Spiritual Interative Reenactment. Following will be a full meal and group discussion. We will also be reading the Emancipation Proclamation. There will be Vendors on site for both days and light refreshments served on Friday evening and Saturday Morning.

Collins, who wrote the first novel by a black woman in the United States.  The "Curse of Caste" was first published in the AME Christian Recorder, 1865.  Kachun co-edited the reprinted novel and will autograph it for sale at the event.  Dance troupes are "Billy Ross Dance Techniques" and Valorie Taylor's "Expressions".  Along with other recording artists, we will have prestigious speakers, Underground Railroad Exhibit with Dr. Mamie Diggs, children's carnival, petting zoo, pony rides, vendors and our first blood drive.

& AAMP’s 31st Anniversary Celebration

In preservation of the Juneteenth legacy, AAMP celebrates its 31st anniversary in concert with the 142nd anniversary of the passage and ratification of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States of America.  This cultural adventure includes an encampment of the Third Regiment Infantry of the United States Colored Troops, historical re-enactments of Frederick Douglass (portrayed by Gary Giles) and Harriet Tubman (portrayed by Rhonda Hall), interpretive dance and the Freedom Choir of Philadelphia.  Free Admission

The history of Juneteenth and how it relates to modern day slavery in regards to our criminal "in"justice system.  We will have a former inmate who served over 20 years in prison and was released two months ago, through DNA tests.

June 3rd, 2006 - Juneteenth Celebration of Central PA - There will be plenty of family fun and little known historic information at the 7th annual Juneteenth Celebration in Williamsport's Brandon Park, June 3rd, noon until 7:00.  A scenic landmark in Williamsport, Brandon Park is at Rural Avenue and Market St.  Mayor Mary B. Wolf and State Rep. Steve Cappelli will present opening remarks.  Voted as a Bicentennial Related Event by the Williamsport Bicentennial Committee, local history will be featured, as well as, traditional Juneteenth facts.  An historic skit called, "Mr. Hero Washington" will be performed about a black Taylor Guard soldier's experience in the Saw Dust War of 1872 in Williamsport.  Historian Mamie Diggs will speak on the local Underground Railroad and show her exhibit.  Headlining the musical performances will be Maryland's award winning gospel band "Burning Bush".  There will be dance performances, recording artists, pony rides, petting zoo, and a children's carnival -- all free of charge.  Craft and food vendors will be on hand, and great raffle prizes will be given.  Among several speakers, Rev. The 6th annual Juneteenth Celebration will be held at the Roundhouse Field in Williamsport, PA on August 13th from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm.  Admission is free.  Children's Carnival, pony rides, petting zoo, music and dance performances and theatrical reenactments are all free to the public.  Authors will autograph their books and artists will sell their paintings.  Food and craft vendors will also be available.  We offer health information and give out free child ID kits through one of our community groups.  Learn about African-American history and other cultures.  Guest speakers will speak about Juneteenth and diversity.  Be part of the celebration experience by being included in our souvenir booklet, or rent vendor space to provide food or crafts to our over 1,000 guests by calling 570 322-1198   Our aim is to educate while we entertain.  We are the original Juneteenth Celebration for the Northcentral region of Pennsylvania, and have been since 2000.

Juneteenth Celebration will consist of readings about the Spirit of Juneteenth.  Stories from Senior Citizens will be shared to develope an appreciation for the African American experience. All participants will share in the development of a 4 generation Family Tree.


June 21, 2005 - Geechee Girl Rice Cafe - DIALOGUE @ DINNER Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 6:30 PM Juneteenth Celebration --Festive picnic style dinner& Workshop: “Finding your family history” Geechee Girl Rice Cafe, 5946 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, Pa 215-843-8113, will host a dinner and workshop commemorating "Juneteenth". There will be a festive picnic style meal and a workshop: "Finding your family history" led by professional researcher Patricia Burks. June 19th, 1865,when the last of the enslaved African Americans learned that they had been emancipated, has become for their descendants, a symbol of hard won freedom. Dinner is $26.50. Reservations are necessary. Patricia Burks is a professional researcher whose skills in finding information have been useful to clients who are developing family histories. Over the years, the process of guiding clients through the process of recovering their pasts has proven to be a very rewarding undertaking.  Patricia understands the unique challenges black families face when undertaking research and is often hired by African Americans who wish to reconnect with long lost relatives. For the family wanting to begin the process of finding its history, there are many resources available right here in Philadelphia.

Salt & Pepper Mime Theatre - "June 13, 2005- Harriet T & Me--The Freedom Train" is one person multi-media performance as a testament to Harriet Ross Tubman and her life's work. A pre show "Code Song" interactive workshop and post show panel discussion on "Analyzing Your Private War"--Seeing The Need, Taking the Challenge, Beating The Odds" will round off the activities.

Clarion University African American Caucus - Program including songs, poetry reading, other performances and lunch.  Monday, June 20, 2005, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the University Bell Tower.
FARREL
Minority Health Center - Juneteenth 2005 salutes the African-American Father, Saturday, June 18th, 2005, from noon to dusk in Veteran's Square, Farrell, Pennsylvania.  Events include a parade, games, food vendors, a drill team, a talent showcase, an African attire fashion show, entertainment, community line dancing, cheerleaders, gospel singing, and more!  Come enjoy family, food, fellowship, and fun!  The first 50 fathers to register will receive kente sashes, and an opportunity to be photographed with his family!  Sponsored by Minority Health Center, Sharon/Farrell Weed & Seed, ERASE Anti-Drug Coalition, Shenango Valley Urban League Youth Initiative Program, Mercer County Frontiers Club, Mercer Coutny NAACP, Various Churches, Black Men For Progress, and the PBI Center.  For further information, Please call 724-981-3856.
EAST STROUDSBURG
This first event is a fundraiser for the Monroe County Arts Council's "Party for the Arts."  It will mainly feature the artistic endeavors of African American Artists. June 19, 2005 - Wal-Mart - We will be holding a Juneteenth celebration this Sunday at the Franklin, PA.  Wal-Mart.  The local group of Buffalo Soldiers will also be joining us to help celebrate this day.
