Chandler
residents of all races, nationalities and religions are
invited to come together in June to commemorate one of
the greatest events in the history of our nation, the
abolishment of slavery in 1865.
The theme for the 16th
Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Chandler is "Back to
Basics." Participants are invited to bring food to the
park for a family-style cook-out.

Tucson Juneteenth Festival Committee -
Main Festival in the Park - June 20, 2009; 3:00 - 11:00
at Kennedy Park Fiesta Area (Ajo Way and LaCholla
Blvd); Entertainment starts about 5:00 - lots of
information, education and food. This year we are
partnering with the Community Food Bank, so we asking
everyone to bring an item or two to help feed those in
need. Entertainment will feature a variety of acts
including an All Star Band with well known local
musicians Bob "Big Bird" Elliott, Dr. Butch Diggs, Lisa
Otey, Jacki Blu, Doug Davis, James Williams, Diane Van
Deurzen, DARWIN, Marcus Elliott and True Devotion Motown
Revue. Local favorite Barbea Williams will be on with
her Afro/Carribean performing group. A Basketball
tournament will be held at Pima Community College West
Campus June 13 and 14. To sign up or for more

Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant will be held June 12 at
6:00 p.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2800 E. 36th

13, 2009 - Valley of the Sun Juneteenth - (Phoenix,
Arizona) – The Valley of the Sun will be celebrating
America's historic legacy of freedom from enslavement
during the observance of Juneteenth throughout the
nation. The celebration is sponsored by the Arizona
Informant Newspaper and will be held Saturday, June 13,
2009 on the beautiful campus of South Mountain Community
College located at 7050 S. 24th Street, Phoenix,
AZ 85042. The event features fun for the entire
family. The event features local known musical
performers mixed with community groups and schools.
Other highlights include free health screenings,
educational workshops, children’s activities, ethnic
arts and crafts, vendors, games, a poetry contest and
the finest authentic Soul food. |

Juneteenth Festival Committee -
The 38th
Annual Juneteenth Festival in Tucson, Arizona will take
place on June 14; 2:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the
Kennhedy Park Fiesta Area on Ajo and La Cholla. There
will be plenty of entertainment, food, fun and
information. The festival is free and open to the entire
public. There will also be a Basketball Tournament
taking place June 6, 7 and 8 at Pima Community College.
A Gospel Jubilee program will be held at Rising Star MBC
2800 E. 36th Street at 6:30 p.m. on June 7. Student
W.A.R.P.S. (circular chess) tournament May 31 at Quincie

13, 2008 - South Chandler Self Help Foundation, Inc
- The Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant has been in
existence for six years. The pageant is dedicated
to celebrating the uniqueness of the African American
female and her greatness while encouraging future
leaders. This pageant is not a beauty pageant. It
celebrates the many sizes shapes colors and textures of
the African American young woman. Each year, the
pageant awards a scholarship and prizes to recognize and
assist the development of young women.

The South Chandler Self-Help Foundation Inc will be
hosting the 17th annual Juneteenth celebration with a
Pageant and an old fashion outdoor celebration.
The Pageant will be held at the Chandler Center for the
Arts 250 North Arizona Avenue, June 15th 2007 at 7PM.
And the outdoor celebration will be on the 16th of June
at the Zora Folley Memorial Park 601 East Frye Road
Chandler, Az.

JUNETEENTH Jazz splash FESTIVAL
& Ethnic Arts Fair is a (6) year old celebration of
'Freedom Hope & Harmony'. It annually takes place in
ARCOSANTI each Father's Day weekend. The festival opens
at 10am daily with Arcosanti tours and the festivities
are introduced by Reverend Douglas Hobson and the St.
Luke Ebony Christian Church choir. The following program
includes national and international musicians performing
Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Classical, and Latin-Salsa
music. Additionally, there are health clinicians (HIV,
Diabetes, Sickle Cell) and music clinicians (Jazz
Theory, Jazz Improv, Jazz Music Business, and Creative
Vocalization). The festival presents world class crafts
and ethnic fine art exhibits. An after festival dance
happens 7pm until 11pm Saturday (Reggae) and Sunday
(Blues Finale). The VIP Pass enjoys the backstage lounge
hospitality, swimming pool, reserved table dining,
Father's Day Wine & Cheese Garden. Supreme VIP Pass adds
Farewell Dinner & Show Monday, June 20. Ultimate VIP
Pass 'winner' adds two days and two nights at Creekside
Preserve Lodge & Cabins. Marionette theater, magic
shows, and storytelling is suited for pre-teens.
Archeological setting (Arcosanti), covered amphitheater,
food vendors (fry bread, bean pies, and assorted
specialties with ice cold beverages), continuous live
entertainment, and great 'spirit' makes this event one
of the fastest growing and culturally important

Eastlake Park Hosts 2005 Juneteenth/Black History
Month Celebration - The 37th annual Pride, Tradition,
Success - A Juneteenth/Black History Month Celebration
will take place on Feb. 3 to 5 at Eastlake Park, 15th
Street and Jefferson Avenue, and will feature three
days of multicultural entertainment that will include
music, dance, food, children's activities and much more.
Juneteenth, also known as African American Emancipation
Day, commemorates freedom, emphasizing education and
achievement. The event raises money for scholarships and
since 1968 more than 800 college scholarships have been
awarded to minority and economically disadvantaged youth
in the area. Here's the three-day lineup:
Feb. 3 - 4 to 7 p.m. Black History Youth Rally & Youth
Basketball Game "
Feb. 4 - 7 p.m. Juneteenth Youth Talent Show "
Feb. 5 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Juneteenth/Black History Month
Parade & Festival Parade begins at 10 a.m., Jefferson
Avenue from Eighth to 15th Streets.
The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department co-sponsors
this event with Juneteenth Tradition, Inc., a non-profit
