Juneteenth has been celebrated in Anchorage, Alaska for 30+ years and this year, the annual banquet will be held on June 12. Other events include a basketball tournament, the first annual Hip Hop Night, the Miss Juneteenth Pageant and a Gospel Day. Juneteenth Alaska provides top-notch knowledge to the communities in Alaska about black history and famous African Americans both in our past and now. The African American Historical Society of Alaska (A.A.H.S.A.) hosts the annual Juneteenth celebration in Anchorage Alaska. The vision of the African American Historical Society of Alaska is to promote and preserve the historical recognition and culture of African Americans in Alaska. We endeavor to educate the general public about accomplishments of African Americans through celebrations; establishment of African American cultural centers and museums; and researching African American history in Alaska and beyond.
