New Orleans
June 19

The New Orleans African American Museum of Art, Culture & History, 1418 Governor Nicholls Street, New Orleans, Louisiana from 11:00am - 6:00pm will serve as host site of the Juneteenth Jazz Jam & Art Festival.  The Festival will combine this fast growing national commemorative with a celebration of Jazz, Art, and Voter Registration and Education.

Planned events include an art exhibition, “Ladies in Jazz” performance, open mic poetry, an artist market, and a voters registration drive with the support of Operation Big Vote's Unity 04 Campaign.

Just as Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom from slavery, this event will promote a sense of freedom for our local artist.

This celebration will combine efforts with the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Unity ‘04 Civic Engagement and Voter Empowerment Campaign, and the National Urban League.

The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation envisions a nation in which all citizens have the tools to participate fully in the democratic process at the local, state, national and global levels. By continuing to lead the fight to eliminate remaining barriers to civic participation, the National Coalition will promote greater social and economic justice to enhance the quality of African American life.

Unity ‘04 Civic Engagement and Voter Empowerment Campaign is a nonpartisan network of 130 organizations that are united to increase the Black vote in the 2004 election cycle and build a groundswell of civic participation in the Black community. What better way to celebrate our freedom than through an expression of our art and voter participation.
