North Charleston The Cooper River Memorial Library located at 3503 Rivers Ave. in N. Charleston welcomes Freedom poetry and Freedom story readings over the open mic in celebration of Juneteeth. Write your own Juneteenth poem with Library Manager, and Author Linda Saylor-Marchant(Linda is the Author of Hammer 2Legit2 Quit and From the Church to the Appollo- Biography of Thurman Ruth - Gospel Disc Jockey). Poems will be submitted to the Sentinel News. Also create a Juneteenth Craft Tues. Open mic and craft activities will take place on Tues.June 13th, Wednesday June 14th and Thurs. June 15th.Craft/ Poetry table will be open from 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day. Rock Hill Mount Prospect Baptist Church, 339 West Black Street, Rock Hill, South Carolina, will host its first annual Juneteenth celebration with a series of events. On Friday, June 16, a forum on THE PROGRESS OF FREEDOM, will be held at the church, preceded by a "Taste of Old" reception. A professor of history, a guest business woman, and several local professionals will participate. The reception begins at 6:15 p.m. The forum begins at 7:00 p.m. FREEDOMFEST, a day of celebration, will be held on Saturday, June 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the church grounds. A homeland promenade, exhibits, choral groups, workshops, games for young and old, festive food, live and recorded music, gift prizes, and other activities will be featured. It promises to be a day to remember. A COMMEMORATIVE PROGRAM will be held at the church on Sunday, June 18, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The speaker for the the occasion is an orator, author, and international traveler. A distinguished service award will be presented to a local citizen for outstanding professional and civic services rendered to the city of Rock Hill, York County, and the state of South Carolina. Music will be presented by the Rock Hill Ecumenical Choir and a guest violinist. A reception will follow the program. Everyone is invited to all events.
