This is my first juneteenth celebration. I got the idea last year but was not
able to plan in time. This year thanks to essence i am going to make sure I follow
through. The theme will have a texan flavor, and some reading of the proclamation I hope
it turns out okay if there are any suggestions please let me know. I live in an apt so
size of function is an issue, my terrace is only so big but intimate is good also. |

Two performances of The Touring Theater Ensemble of North Carolina are being
sponsored by The Awareness Quality Improvement Team, The Society of Black Professionals
and The Black Growth Council; all of Corning, Inc. The Ensemble will be performing an
original theater piece, "Let My People Go: The Trials of Bondage in Words of Master
and Slave,". This production is based on actual petitions to Southern Courts and
State Legislatures during the time of slavery. Featured will be six North Carolina actors
who give voice to the documents collected and perform spirituals, which will call
attention to the program's theme. Their performances bring to life the stories of
indifference, the stories of deep sorrow and the resulting stories of enormous courage.
The June 19, 2000 performance will be in the Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium and will
be open to the public. The June 20, 2000 performance will be held in a Corning, Inc.
facility and is restricted to Corning, Inc. employees. |
