The Burlington, Iowa Branch of the NAACP is happily sponsoring our 3rd annual
Juneteenth celebration on Saturday June 17, 2000 in DeEdwin and Gladys White Memorial
Park(300 block of Angular)from 9:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. For the first time we are awarding
two area high school seniors college scholarships. Also new this year will be domino
tournaments and pony rides as well as popular activities from previous years such as 3on3
BB, DJ, drill teams, crafts area, choirs, variety of vendors, good food, and train rides
for the kids. Due to growing attendance and support our theme this year is Unity in the
Community. We invite you to unite with us in making this a very special

Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom This will be Iowa
State University's 1st Juneteenth celebration. It will be from 9am - 3.30pm Sat 17 June
2000 on central campus and in the Memorial Union. Our keynote speaker will be Steve
Birdine. Activities will include: spirit weaving, drum making/playing, African/spirit
dance, story telling, reading of the Proclamation and narratives. Sponsors: Margaret Sloss
Women's Center, Minority Student Affairs, MANNRS and North American Forum.
